Hey there! I'm Mei and I became a clinical psychologist to help meet the increasing need for psychological services in Malaysia. After obtaining a BA in Psychology, I witnessed the prevalence of mental health problems thus developed a strong conviction to help contribute in the field of mental health. Since completing my clinical training, I have gained expertise in working with individuals and families experiencing a wide variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, life stressors, trauma and identity issues.

In terms of my approach to psychotherapy, I see stress as a normal part of life and we have to make sense of our experiences to better manage our own lives. Often times we try to ignore the unpleasantness and discomfort that comes with stress, but the more we avoid addressing the discomforts, we risk developing certain symptoms. And these symptoms cause other symptoms, and then suddenly we have a collection of symptoms which can then be diagnosed. It is through deep understanding of our circumstances (i.e., why we react the way we react) that we can bring compassion to ourselves and use this as a springboard for change.

I am trained in systemic thinking and person-centered therapy and my work includes expanding people's perceptions of human experiences to build their capacity to tolerate emotions, so that they can better understand and manage their own complexities. I also incorporate a lot of humour in my sessions mainly because going for therapy can be daunting and challenging for many. I believe that we all need some humour in our lives while staying resilient in the face of life's challenges.

Outside of work, you'll most probably find me cycling, finding humour in everyday life  or chilling with my pets!
